The Science

Lasting Reduction of
Unwanted Hair

Laser hair removal works by directing concentrated light into melanin inside hair follicles. The absorbed energy converts to heat, destroying the follicle and its stem cells — progressively reducing hair growth over a course of sessions.

The critical differentiator is power and pulse length. High-power treatment at 20–30 J/cm² with pulse under 30ms delivers a deeper, longer-lasting reduction. Low-power lasers only partially disable them — hair returns closer to its original density.

How long do laser hair removal results last?

High-power diode laser treatment delivers a deep, long-lasting reduction — over a course of sessions the follicles are strongly suppressed, so hair grows back progressively finer, lighter and sparser. Low-power lasers and IPL act mainly on the surface, so results fade sooner and hair returns closer to its original density. Occasional maintenance sessions help keep results at their best.

Which machine is right for me?

For most hair removal cases, Vossman Compact Blend is ideal — its four-wavelength VCSEL technology covers any skin type simultaneously. For very dark skin (Fitzpatrick V–VI) or vascular conditions, the Polylase ND (1064nm) is clinically preferred. The Polylase MX is ideal when you want both Alexandrite speed and Nd:YAG depth in one platform.

How many sessions are needed?

High-power treatment requires only 6–8 sessions, spaced 1–2 months apart. This compares to low-power lasers needing 9+ sessions at 1-month intervals. Polylase ND delivers over 80% hair reduction after just 3 sessions for darker skin types.

Is it safe for Indian and darker skin?

Absolutely. All three machines are designed for Fitzpatrick I–VI. The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength has the least melanin absorption, bypassing the epidermis safely to target only the deep follicle. Vossman Blend's VCSEL technology eliminates hot spots. Polylase Aqua Cool reduces risk by cooling the epidermis 25°C below unprotected treatment.

What is VCSEL technology?

VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emission Laser) is the technology in Vossman Compact that distributes laser energy uniformly across the entire beam head. Traditional lasers create hot spots with uneven energy — VCSEL eliminates this completely, resulting in greater efficacy and no risk of burn from energy concentration.

What is Aqua Cool and how does it work?

Aqua Cool (on Polylase MX and ND) uses chilled water mist that drops the epidermal temperature up to 25°C below uncooled treatment and 15°C below chilled air. It uses only water — no costly consumables like cryogen. The large internal tank provides 9+ hours of continuous use.

Can the same machine treat vascular conditions?

Yes — the Polylase MX and ND treat: spider veins, rosacea, vascular lesions (angiomas, hemangiomas), benign skin growths (skin tags, warts), benign pigmented lesions, facial wrinkles, and PFB. The Polylase MX has a dedicated VEIN mode with 2–4mm spot sizes for precise vascular treatment.
